The OAAs

All week at CLA, the students have been diligently preparing for and taking the Ohio Achievement Assessments. For those of you who remember being in elementary and middle school, you probably took similar tests (ERBs, OAAs, or something similiar). As you may imagine, these tests, while not representing much significance in the long run, have created a lot of stress and anxiety with in the school. Its funny, each kid has their own way of dealing with it. When the students come to eat breakfast in the cafeteria, Mr. Edwards the chef, asks each student how they're feeling about the tests and whether they received a nutritious dinner and a sufficient amount of sleep. Its interesting to hear the students responses, some laugh and say they're ready; while others nervously glance away at the thought of sitting in the same chair for a few hours to take a test. After these tests, the students are allowed to leave for early dismissal, but many choose to stay, where they play games, watch movies, and help the teachers. Hopefully next week, with the OAAs over, the school will resume its normal schedule and students won't be as stressed.

  1. Wow, Josh. Your project sounds very interesting. it is great that you are continuing your work with Citizen's Academy that started when you were a Bolton House leader and they were our community service project. I'm sure it must be very nerveracking for these students to do these tests. I know when I took ERB's I was always very nervous. It also is interesting how the chef is acting almost as the student's therapist, which is very cool. I hope they do well and you enjoy your project. What you are doing is really making a difference!
