First Days

My senior project is an internship with Brian Kirkendall, the VP of marketing for Hoover.  Over the past two days I have spent part of my time shadowing Brian and all that he does, and some of my time sitting in on different meetings that members of his marketing team are involved with. Each morning starts off with a meeting of Brian and his team, in which each person goes over their daily schedule and top priorities. This meeting allows people to communicate about what they need from each other and to make sure everyone is on the same page. The marketing team consists of graphic designers, photographers, IT/web marketers (e-commerce), brand manager/ marketers, product developers, product researchers and PR people. Each group has vastly different roles that all come together to support, promote, and market the individual products and the brand as a whole. Because I am not completely sure what I want to do in the marketing field, I have spent the last two days sitting in on meetings and shadowing people from a few of the different positions that make up the marketing team. So far the product development meeting has been the most interesting aspect of marketing and I am hoping I will be able to see a lot more of that aspect of marketing over the next few weeks.
